The Colonial Athletic Association‘s six-team, double-elimination baseball tournament begins tomorrow (Wednesday) at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C. The winner receives an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. The pairings have been set; VCU will face UNC Wilmington (the host team) tomorrow at 7 p.m.
Four schools finished deadlocked in first place, all with 18-11 league records. To break the tie and determine the seeds for the tournament the conference went to head-to-head competition among the four during regular season play. The results were:
Old Dominion (33-22, 18-11 in CAA) is the No. 1 seed based on a 7-2 mark versus Delaware, UNCW and VCU. Delaware (29-21, 18-11) is the No. 2 seed with a 5-3 record versus the others. VCU (33-21, 18-11) is the No. 3 seed based on its 3-6 mark, while UNC Wilmington (29-25, 18-11) is the No. 4 seed after posting a 2-6 record against the other three.
