The smoke ‘em if ya got ‘em list

In spite of the new regulations to do with smoking tobacco in restaurants some smokers are still puffing away in their favorite water holes. Or, maybe their new favorites … the ones that are allowing it. Some of the restaurants permitting smoking have a separate room dedicated to the needs of tobacco users. Others are simply defying the law.

According to STYLE Weekly no one has been busted yet in the metro area. Alex Gray writes:

Despite the existence of smoke-at-your-own-risk restaurants, police officials in Richmond and in Henrico and Chesterfield counties say they haven’t issued a single citation since the ban went into effect Dec. 1.

  1. As far as the ones defying the law, grow up. If you are that great a place, you could survive adhering to the law.

  2. Although I quit smoking tobacco over 30 years ago, and have no dog in the fight, I can understand why certain saloons/dives and their patrons are ignoring/resisting the ban.

And, I do think the General Assembly will have to rewrite the law. As it is, the ban appears to be unenforceable. At this point it seems the cops want no part of busting cigarette smokers in bars. The health department can’t really do the job.
