Jesse Pellot-Rosa was as tough and dedicated as any VCU player, any time.
Last night at the exhibition game VCU clobbered Union: VCU 85, VUU 55. While in the media room I picked up this year’s press guide. This season’s edition is chock-full of old records. Which prompted this post.
Having followed VCU basketball for most of its 40 years in action, I saw the guys play who hold the records the current players would like to break. Below is a list of my favorite VCU players, who aren’t currently on the team. There’s a first team and a second team.
Hey, I’m not saying this is a list of the “best” ten players ever to wear a Rams uniform. Instead, they are, by position, my favorite ten, based on what appeals to me. So, both offense and defense were considered.
Then, what separates the first team from the second is not a matter of who is more a favorite, or not, it’s about which were the best overall players. Two spirited players were added, who could play roles, to make it an even dozen.
First Team
Point Guard: Eric Maynor (05-09)
Shooting Guard: Rolando Lamb (81-85)
Small Forward: Nick George (02-06)
Power Forward: Kendrick Warren (90-94)
Center: Lorenzo Watson (75-79)
Second Team
Point Guard: Edmund Sherod (77-81)
Shooting Guard: Jesse Pelot-Rosa (03-07)
Small Forward: Tyron McCoy (91-95)
Power Forward: Phil Stinnie (84-88)
Center: Bernard Harris (70-74)
*
Extra Two: L.F. Likcholitov (98-02) at forward/center; Domonic Jones (00-04) either guard position.
