Playing a rare morning game the VCU Rams defeated the Houston Cougars in their first game of three to be played in San Juan , Puerto Rico: VCU 73, Houston 72.
VCU’s freshman guard Joey Rodriguez hit two free throws with 10 seconds on the clock to provide the winning margin. The Rams offense was paced by senior guard Jamal Shuler’s 20 points, who hit a foul shot following a bucket at the 1:06 mark, to give the Rams a one-point lead. Senior forward Michael Anderson scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Update: Tomorrow (Friday) at 1:30 p.m., VCU (2-0) will take on a Miami (2-0) team that defeated Marist by a score of 85-61.
