Today Richmond has only two cinemas in operation within the city limits — the Byrd and the Westhampton. Like most cities Richmond lost most of its movie theaters during the buildup of the suburbs around it during the middle of the last century. Theaters with several screens that were short on charm, but located in busy shopping centers, put the urban single-screen cinemas out of business.

The rare poster above for a gig staged one month after Woodstock was silkscreened by then-VCU art student Chuck Wrenn in 1969. Eventually, the kid pictured on guitar, who was the principle performer in the band — its name was changed soon after this poster was made — went on to become a Rock ‘n’ Roll hall-of-famer. Name him.
