Del. Putney calls for VCU degree review

The Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting:

The chairman of the House Appropriations Committee said today he will ask the assembly’s investigative arm to examine how Virginia Commonwealth University conferred a degree to Richmond’s former police chief.

It certainly looks like everything to do with this Monroe degree story is eventually going to come out. But, it continues to be like pulling teeth. And, it seems, the longer it takes for all the facts to be made public knowledge, the more injury this painful process is likely to do to VCU.

  1. Delegate Putney is a statesman. It surely pains him to see a state school involved in such a situation. I for one am pleased that he has called for a full investigation. These committee members are, afterall, the ones who decide funding for state schools. The same ones that President Trani has successfully lobbied for years. They are within their responsibilities as representatives of the people to get to the bottom of the matter. I just hope they do so quickly.
