Denzel Bowles, James Madison, Jr., F, 6-10, 255
Bowles averaged 19.3 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.7 blocks in JMU’s 2-1 week. The junior forward posted double-doubles (17 pts/15 reb) against Radford and George Mason (20 pts/13 reb) and had 21 points and eight boards in a win over W&M. He shot 54.8% from the floor and 75% from the line for the week. Bowles has scored double figures in 14 straight games.

Charles Jenkins, Hofstra, Jr., G, 6-3, 220
Jenkins averaged 25.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in a pair of Hofstra victories. The junior guard scored 27 points in 24 minutes as the Pride beat Delaware 77-67 and had a team-high 24 points in a 93-54 triumph over UNCW. For the week, Jenkins shot 65.2% from the floor and 89.5% from the FT line. He leads the CAA in scoring (18.9 ppg) and has 11 20-point efforts this season.
CAA MEN’S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Chaz Williams, Hofstra, Fr., G, 5-9, 170
Williams averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in Hofstra’s 2-0 week. The freshman guard tallied 18 points, a team-high eight rebounds and six assists against Delaware and contributed 11 points and five boards versus UNCW. For the week, Williams shot 61.1% (11-18) from the floor.
Top Teams Playing Well: The top teams in the CAA standings are all playing well. George Mason has won seven straight and nine of its last 10, Northeastern has captured 12 of its last 13, Old Dominion has won 11 of its last 13, VCU has won six of its last seven, William & Mary is 15-4 over its past 19 games and Drexel has won six of its last nine.
Four CAA Teams In RPI’s Top 60: The CAA has four teams ranked among the top 60 in the latest RPI released by Collegiate Basketball News through games of Jan. 31. Old Dominion leads the list of CAA teams at #46, while William & Mary is #51, Northeastern is #56 and VCU is #60. The CAA is ranked 12th among the nation’s 32 Division I conferences. Drexel (#103) and George Mason (#105) are just outside the top 100. Only six conferences (Big East – 11, Big 12 – 8, ACC – 6, Atlantic 10 – 6, Big Ten – 5, SEC – 5) have more than four teams in the top 60 of the RPI. The Mountain West joins the CAA with four.
VCU Ties CAA Mark For Three-Pointers: VCU tied a CAA record for three-pointers in a game by hitting 20-of-33 in its 112-53 victory over Towson last Wednesday. Navy also made 20 treys against Mount St. Mary’s in 1990. The Rams, who shot a season-best 63.1% from the floor in the contest, posted their highest point total since 1978-79.
Northeastern’s Janning Closes In On Milestone: Northeastern senior Matt Janning is 13 rebounds shy of joining Dave Caligaris as the only players in school history with at least 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists in a career. Janning ranks sixth on NU’s career points list (1,673) and seventh in assists (318).
Block Party: The CAA features five of the nation’s top 30 players in blocked shots. Towson’s Robert Nwankwo is 8th (3.4 bpg), Hofstra’s Greg Washington is 20th (2.7 bpg), VCU’s Larry Sanders is 21st (2.7 bpg), UNCW’s John Fields is 22nd (2.7 bpg) and Northeastern’s Nkem Ojougboh is 30th (2.4 bpg).
