Bouchard CAA Player of the Week

This story about VCU women’s soccer came in from Scott Day, VCU Assistant Director of Athletic Communications:

Sophomore Myriam Bouchard, who helped anchor the stifling back line of the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s soccer team, was honored this afternoon as she was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, announced by the conference office earlier this afternoon. The Black and Gold continues to impress as the Rams rolled to weekend road wins over Delaware and Drexel.

Under the direction of new Co-Head Coaches Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak and Tim Sahaydak, the Rams now find themselves on top of the CAA standings with a perfect 4-0 record, two points up on James Madison and William & Mary.

It was not just Bouchard’s defense that stood out this past weekend, however, as she netted her second goal of the season on Friday evening in the 66th minute as she took a corner from senior Brittain Maas and headed into the back of the net to stake VCU to a 1-0 lead, a lead it would never relinquish.

The most impressive part of Bouchard’s weekend was the stifling defense as she helped anchor the back line of the Black and Gold, a defense that allowed a total of nine combined shots in the two games.

VCU has now registered a shutout in six of their last seven games and has tied a school record with eight shutouts on the season, with nearly half of their schedule still remaining. The Rams return home this weekend for a pivotal contest against the Monarchs of Old Dominion University at 7 p.m. on Friday evening at VCU’s SportsBackers Stadium.
