When I first went to VCU Art School in 1975, I remember my older brother, who was also attending VCU, telling me about the famous "Devil and Miss Jones"/"Beaver Valley" episode at the Biograph. He thought it was absolutely hilarious. I remember so many good times at the Biograph. My friends and I tried to see as many movies as possible there (on the arty side, not the XXX side. I'm female). The more knowledgeable one was about art flicks, and the more one had seen, gave you plenty of street cred in art school. It was like students at a jock school talking about football games, only much better. I was so sad when the Biograph closed. You offered a great service to the neighborhood, even though it didn't show you in cash form.

Loved the Biograph, great memories of the place. Richmond is very much worse off for not having it or something similar.

Great memories. I was but a high school student during these times, but I remember them. I saw my first x-rated movie at the Biograph ("Best of the New York Erotic Film Festival" I seem to remember it was called), but I also saw "The Discreet Charm..." mentioned by Terry and other foreign films I would never have tried otherwise. I remember being bored by "Elvira Madigan" but many of the films I liked -- they gave me an appreciation for cinema beyond the standard Hollywood offerings. And I was already enough into nostalgia that I loved the weekend showings of old TV shows, commercials and political trivia like Nixon's Checkers speech. I learned from the Biograph and am glad it was a part of my youth.

FT, I had some GREAT times there, especially in the private booth..!! I saw some great films that I porbably wouldn't have seen otherwise. I am trying to imagine what we will look like if we make it to the 50th anniversity, if we are indeed on the planet. I know Larry Rohr will be there and look excatly like we would expect!!!! Artie
