View of the Carillon
Dogwood Dell is in Byrd Park, next to the Carillon, a World War I memorial with a bell tower. The Dell is the site for a July 4th fireworks show that draws a packed-park crowd each summer.
From the City of Richmond’s Dogwood Dell page:
Dogwood Dell is a 2,400 seat amphitheater owned and operated by the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities and located in Byrd Park.
Since 1956, it has been home to the Festival of Arts; a summer long celebration of the arts featuring art exhibits, concerts, dance and theater. In addition to these events, the Festival of Arts also incorporates a children’s series with performances at our Ha’ Penny stage; and showcases the talents of area youth in the visual arts with displays in the Teen Art Show.
In addition to featuring youth talent in the Teen Art Show, we also feature amateur artists in the Emerging Talent show in July and professional artists in the Park Reflections show in August.
The Festival of Arts offers approximately fifty or more shows which were attended by over 100,000 people last year.
