A-Braves to miss playoffs

Last night the Philadelphia Phillies finally eliminated the Atlanta Braves from the playoffs picture in the National League. Thus, for the second year in a row Atlanta will not play in Major League Baseball’s postseason tournament that winds up with the World Series. That, after the Braves franchise won 14 consecutive divisional titles, to set the record for qualifying for postseason play in all pro team sports.

The four teams in the American League that will make the playoffs have been determined. The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox are both in, but the winner of the AL East Division is still to be determined with the results of the last weekend of regular season games. The Cleveland Indians and LA Angels are the other two division winners.

With its win surging Philadelphia moved into a tie with the slumping New York Mets in the NL East. In addition to the Phillies and the Mets, five other teams are still in the hunt in the Senior Circuit. They include: the Chicago Cubs, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies.
