The statue of Confederate general J.E.B. Stuart (1833-64) on Monument Ave. faces north. Is there a particular reason why?

Hint: The statue of Robert E. Lee at the other end of the 1600 block of Monument faces south.

I always liked to think it was because JEB and Jackson were constantly on the look out, protecting the South. While Lee faces south looking out over the place.
That’s what I heard anyway.

Ross,
Your answer catches the spirit of it. Stuart and Jackson died in the war and face north every day. Lee came home alive, so he faces south.
