  1. Gallery 5 if the “Hot Topic” of Richmond. And by “Hot Topic” I mean the clothing store. Somehow someone funded a bunch of childhood angst and started a club called “Gallery 5″ where every angry Freshman art student can feel at home. Let’s all die our hair blue, pierce our nose and get naked… all in the name of art!

  2. Elliott,

    Huh?

  3. Man you are SO right.

I was trying to figure out why Richmond Times Dispatch put them on the cover story, and all the other media throughout Richmond is constantly covering them.

Now I understand that the artists they pull in from Asia and Russia as well as the 30-50+ year old artists found locally are all stuck in their Freshman year at VCU… and apparently their art work is a big enough deal to be perpetually covered by local media.

Crazy. I bet you sure are glad not to be a part of that. Because it sounds like it’s the last thing you’d ever want to be involved in.

Otherwise you’d be out in the real world doing something rather than bitching anonymously to the “public.” Contrary to your contrived whinery, the majority of the art walk and Gallery5’s patrons on First Fridays are in the 30+ age range.

Do a little bit of research into Richmond’s galleries, Gallery5, hell, maybe even volunteer and get involved so you have a leg to stand on before you hobble up onto your soap box. Chances are you won’t bother after a bit of enlightenment; you’d be proud to know what a talented and nourishing creative community is growing in the very ground you walk on in Richmond. It’s been years coming and it’s about time.

Your remarks weren’t worth any attention but it seems that you personally need some positive attention… even though your comment was fishing for negative attention.

  4. Wow,
Elliot has obviously never been to Gallery5.
I may have seen one person under the age of 21 and their hair died at the last first friday I attended.
I think Gallery5 was helping to promote artists of all demographics, especially those that don’t show 1,000 times at every gallery in richmond.
The quality of their work has only gotten better in the past 2 years. I also do not remember them ever showing anyone who was a freshman at VCU.
From what I hear, they were never funded, and have never been funded, by anyone.

Elliot, quick question…. have you ever been to Gallery5, if so, what show? I will only assume that you did not make it out to disrobed2.
Why dont you check out their website for a little bit of a history lesson.
